In what has appeared as a big shock to many developed countries in the world, the Ghanaian government has launched a programme to send its skilled workers to Europe.

The programme is an initiative of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in collaboration with the Ghanaian-European Centre and European labour institutions as the West African country targets a solution to reducing the unemployment challenges facing the country.

According to an article published on the website of the Daily Graphic newspaper on Wednesday 19th March 2025, the aim of the programme is to provide structured employment opportunities while ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions.

Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale has already dismissed concerns that the programme could lead to brain drain and sees the other positive sides of the programme. Instead, he insisted that could equip Ghanaian workers with valuable international experience that could benefit the country’s economy.

Andreas Bingen, Head of the Ghanaian-European Centre, described the programme as a step towards promoting labour mobility and legal migration for Ghanaians.

“This initiative is not just about employment abroad; it is about creating dignified work opportunities that strengthen both Ghana’s economy and international partnerships,” he noted.

Romania is the European country that has opened its arms to skilled Ghanaian labour into the country and the country is hopeful that the programme will help Ghanaian youth gain valuable experience in working abroad.
