The vibrant sounds of Ghanaian culture echoed through Japan this week as the Winneba Youth Choir of Ghana headlined the Ghana-Japan Cultural Exchange Concert Series 2026, bringing together music lovers, diplomats, community leaders, and cultural enthusiasts in a celebration of friendship, heritage, and unity.

Held at the Akasaka Civic Center in Tokyo on Friday May 29, the concert showcased Ghana’s rich musical traditions under the theme “Ghana’s Reset Through Youth, Culture and Harmony.” The event featured performances by the Winneba Youth Choir, Voice of Nyametease, and Japanese pianist Hirari Sato, highlighting the power of music as a bridge between cultures.

Speaking at the event, Acting Head of Mission at the Ghana Embassy Japan, Francis Thalamus Doe reiterated the deepening ties between Ghana and Japan, noting that 2026 marks several significant milestones in Ghana-Japan relations, including the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He described the concert as part of the Embassy of Ghana’s broader efforts to promote cultural diplomacy and strengthen people to people connections through music, art, and heritage.

The event also paid tribute to the enduring friendship between Ghana and Japan, with organizers expressing appreciation to Minato Ward officials, cultural organizations, performers, and supporters who helped make the programme possible.

President and Executive Representative of The Min-On Concert Association, Koji Yamaguchi also lauded the collaboration that brought the musical event to life, emphasizing that music transcends borders, languages, and cultural differences while serving as a powerful bridge between people and nations. He underscored the importance of strengthening the longstanding friendship between Ghana and Japan and fostering meaningful connections among young people who will shape the future of both countries. He noted that cultural exchanges such as this do not only create unforgettable experiences for participants but also lay the foundation for stronger Ghana–Japan relations for generations to come. Yamaguchi expressed his sincere appreciation to the Ghana Embassy in Japan, Minato City, and the organizing team for their unwavering dedication and support in making the event a resounding success.

Following the successful Tokyo performance, the cultural exchange series continues in Saitama Prefecture on Sunday May 31, where audiences will once again experience an evening of powerful choral harmonies celebrating Ghanaian heritage, youth, and cultural unity.

As Ghana and Japan look toward a future of stronger cooperation, the concert stands as a reminder that music remains one of the most powerful tools for fostering mutual understanding across borders.
