Ghana has targeted an increase in its chocolate exportation to Japan, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The sector Minister made the disclosure after holding a bilateral engagement with Her Excellency Suzuki Momoko, and the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Ghana.

Chocolate from Ghana is one of the most popular chocolate brands in Japan and is sold across all convenient shops in the country.

“Where we will explore more partnerships including scaling up our chocolate exports to Japan considering the ever increasing popular Japanese demand for Ghana Chocolate,” he said.

Ghana is the world’s second-largest cocoa producer, after Côte d’Ivoire, and a major exporter of cocoa beans, with production typically averaging around 800,000 tonnes annually, though recent seasons have seen fluctuations.

Meanwhile, Japan has pledged to offer technical support to the West African nation in its rice production.
