Ghana has named veteran German trainer Winfried Schafer as the new Technical Director of football in the country.

The former Thailand head coach replaces Berhnard Lippert who left the role silently almost 2 years ago.

Schafer will also serve as technical advisor for Black Stars head coach Otto Addo who has come under heavy public scrutiny following the 4-time African champions’ failure to secure a ticket to the next AFCON tournament which is slated for Morocco later this year.

Schafer’s CV includes winning the 2002 AFCON tournament with Cameroon in Mali and managing teams in the UAE, Azerbaijan, Qatar, and Iran.

Meanwhile assist trainer John Paintsil and goalkeeper’s coach Fatawu Dauda retained their roles while assistant Joseph Laumann has been fired.
