TOKYO, JAPAN — Ghana’s Ambassador to Japan, His Excellency Humphrey Chatio Ajongbah, officially presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty Emperor Naruhito on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, marking an important milestone in the diplomatic relationship between Ghana and Japan.
The ceremony, confirmed by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, formally accredited Ambassador Ajongbah as Ghana’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan.
The occasion symbolizes another chapter in the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

The presentation of Letters of Credence is an important tradition in international diplomacy. During the ceremony, a newly appointed ambassador formally presents documents authorizing them to represent their country before the head of state of the receiving nation.
For Ambassador Ajongbah, the occasion follows his appointment by Ghana’s President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, earlier this year.
It marks the formal recognition of his diplomatic status in Japan and the beginning of a new phase of his mission.

Ghana and Japan have maintained diplomatic relations since 1957, developing partnerships in education, infrastructure, healthcare, trade, technology and cultural exchange.
Ambassador Ajongbah assumes his responsibilities at a particularly significant time as both countries prepare to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
The upcoming anniversary presents an opportunity to celebrate decades of friendship while exploring new areas of cooperation and investment.

For Ghanaians residing in Japan, Ambassador Ajongbah’s tenure also represents an opportunity for stronger engagement between the Ghana Embassy and the Ghanaian community.
Many Ghanaians have established businesses, families and professional careers across Japan, contributing to the country’s multicultural society.
Closer communication between the Embassy and Ghanaian associations could help strengthen community development, promote Ghanaian culture and address issues affecting Ghanaian residents.

As Ghana and Japan approach their historic diplomatic anniversary, attention will turn to expanding cooperation in business, education, technology, tourism and cultural exchange.
The presentation of Ambassador Ajongbah’s Letters of Credence to Emperor Naruhito is therefore more than a ceremonial occasion. It represents the continuation of a friendship built on mutual respect, diplomatic cooperation and shared opportunities.
JafriQ Radio Japan congratulates His Excellency Ambassador Humphrey Chatio Ajongbah on the successful presentation of his Letters of Credence and wishes him success in his diplomatic mission.
JafriQ Radio Japan will continue reporting on Ghana–Japan relations and developments affecting the Ghanaian and wider African communities in Japan.
