Dr. Benjamin Bonsu Pays Courtesy Call on DRC Ambassador in Tokyo to Advance Japan–Africa Space Cooperation

TOKYO, JAPAN — Dr. Benjamin Bonsu, Founder of the Japan Africa Space Business Network (JASBN) and Director of JafriQ Radio Nana Yaw Pop , has paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Ambassador Prof. Lukumwena Nsenda, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Japan, to congratulate him on his leadership role as Chairman of the Subcommittee  Science and Technology Research activities under the African Diplomatic Corps (ADC) in Japan.

The meeting provided an important opportunity for meaningful exchanges on strengthening cooperation between Japan and Africa through science, technology and the rapidly growing space sector.

During the discussions, Dr. Bonsu introduced the activities and vision of the Japan Africa Space Business Network (JASBN), highlighting its role in connecting stakeholders, researchers, businesses, governments and institutions across Japan and Africa to promote greater collaboration in the space industry.

Dr. Bonsu also presented potential opportunities within Japan’s advanced space sector that could contribute to stronger space diplomacy and international cooperation between Japan and African countries. Particular attention was given to the utilization of space-based technologies and satellite data to address major challenges in areas including food security, agriculture, environmental monitoring and sustainable development.

The discussions explored how closer collaboration between Japan and Africa could support the practical use of space technologies and data for improving agricultural productivity, strengthening food systems and supporting evidence-based decision-making across the continent.

His Excellency Ambassador Prof. Lukumwena Nsenda expressed strong interest in the initiatives presented by Dr. Bonsu and was impressed by the potential opportunities for collaboration. He indicated his willingness to further explore these possibilities together with his team and stakeholders working under the African Diplomatic Corps in Japan.

The Ambassador also expressed his appreciation to Dr. Benjamin Bonsu and Nana Yaw Pop for their continued sacrifice and voluntary contributions toward strengthening the longstanding relationship between Japan and Africa.

The meeting reflected a shared commitment to promoting stronger diplomatic, scientific and technological cooperation, while exploring new pathways through which space technology can contribute to sustainable development and shared prosperity.
