The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has declared Morocco as winners of the 2025 AFCON tournament despite losing the final to Senegal.
The continent’s football regulatory body has declared that Senegal has forfeited the final match after a protest by Morocco was deemed successful.
CAF in a statement says it has awarded a 3–0 victory to the Moroccan Football Federation, which is the shoreline attributed to the winning side when the opposing team forfeits the match.
The latest decision comes after the Moroccan footballing authorities appealed an earlier decision by the CAF disciplinary committee and they have succeeded.
The CAF Appeals body has determined that Senegal’s conduct breached tournament regulations.
This conduct led to the match being officially recorded as a forfeit under Article 84.
Senegal left the pitch for 15 minutes during the chaotic AFCON final with Morocco on January 18, affecting the course of the match and Morocco’s Atlas Lions performance.
The Confedration of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board has officially ruled that the Senegal national football team forfeited the final of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, thus crowning Morocco as the AFCON champions.
