Ghana commits $1.3b to road infrastructure development – President Mahama via TICAD-9 in Yokohama

Ghana has committed a total of $1.3 billion to improve road infrastructure in the West African nation, according to President John Mahama.

President Mahama was the keynote speaker at the Forum of the 2025 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9) held at the Hyatt Regency Yokohama, Japan on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

The forum which marks a pivotal moment in the enduring partnership between Ghana and Japan, a relationship built on mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.

During his speech President Mahama revealed that his administration has secured Presidential approval to commit its royalties from oil and minerals to develop and improve road infrastructure in the country.

“About 70% of oil revenues and minerals royalties, estimated at $1.3 billion have already been allocated to fund the phase 1 of the Big Push which will primarily focus on transformative road infrastructure,” he said.

The Ghanaian President is one of a number of African leaders who participated in the TICAD-9 event.
