Asante Kotoko staged a strong second-half performance to rally from behind to edge Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium in the 2025 President’s Cup on Sunday evening.
Hearts, 6-time winners of the trophy, scored first when attacker Hamza Issah profited from a goalkeeping blunder to draw first blood for the Phobians.
However, Kotoko returned strong after the interval and equalised as a Peter Amidu cross forced Konadu Yiadom to head the ball into his own net.
Kotoko dully took the lead when Kwame Opoku passed the ball into an unguarded net with a cutback from Albert Amoah.
Hearts were handed a last-gasp lifeline to pull parity with a penalty falling to the Phobians in the dying embers of the game but a lackadaisical kick from Emmanuel Amankwa was saved by goalkeeper Mohammed Camara.
Ghana President John Mahama was in attendance and performed the official kick off ceremony.
