The Christian world has been visited by an unwelcoming news on Easter Monday as the Vatican has confirmed the passing of Pope Francis.
According to a statement released by the Vatican, the first-ever Latin America leader of the Catholic Church passed away at 7:35 AM local time on Easter Monday.
Tributes have been pouring in from world leaders as the Pope who has been saddled by sickness gives up the ghost.
Emmanuel Macron, the French President, labelled him as a man of humility as he paid his tribute to the late Pope.
His death comes just a day after making a public appearance at the St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican City in Roma to greet thousands of cheering worshippers.
“Rest in Peace, Pope Francis,” the post says, alongside a picture of the Pope meeting US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania, and another picture of the Pope meeting JD Vance yesterday.
He replaced Benedict XVI whose papacy ended in February 2013 after he stepped down from the seat after replacing Pope John Paul II.
