Ghanaian and Jamaican residents in Japan came together to celebrate their common cultural heritage in Tokyo, Japan over the weekend.

The event was organised by the Ghana Embassy in Japan in collaboration with Bayside Entertainment Limited under the umbrella name Accra to Kingston Cultural Event at the Akasaka Civic Center in Minato-Ku.

The event highlighted the power of cultural diplomacy, bringing together diplomats, dignitaries, and cultural enthusiasts to celebrate the rich heritage of Ghana and Jamaica.

Dela Botri, Yao, and Mackaruffin and the Mackaroots Band thrilled the audience to vibrant musical performances sparking moments of shared joy and cultural heritage between the two nations.

In a statement issued by the Ghana Embassy in Japan after the event, it expressed gratitude to personalities, groups and citizens of the two nations who attended the event.

“We extend our special appreciation to Her Excellency Ms. Shorna-Kay M. Richards, Ambassador of Jamaica to Japan, for co-hosting, and to The Honourable Sakai Manabu, Member of the House of Representatives, our esteemed Guest of Honour, for his invaluable support,” the statement said.

“Their presence, along with yours, was instrumental in making this event a success.
Your support and engagement made this evening truly unforgettable. We look forward to welcoming you to future events as we continue to strengthen the ties between Ghana, Jamaica, and Japan.”

A very good number of the Jamaican population trace their roots to Ghana and still have communities in the Caribbean Island nation who still practice Ghanaian culture.

Queen Nanny, the woman who is credited for originating Reggae Music, traces her roots to the West African nation and will be celebrated during the event.
