Japanese Princess Aiko catches influenza

Japanese Princess Aiko has been diagnosed with the seasonal influenza, the Imperial Household Agency said Monday.

Aiko, 23, who is the only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, canceled her planned participation in an event to her grandfather celebrate the 91st birthday of Emperor Emeritus Akihito, held at his residence in Tokyo’s Minato Ward the same day.

Though the Emperor and Empress showed no symptoms of the influenza, they equally cancelled their plans to participate in the event.
