Incumbent president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi has had his electoral victory last month confirmed by the country’s constitutional court.

That paves way for his swearing in on January 20, to serve a second term in office.

The court rejected two challenges to the results and said Tshisekedi had indeed received 73% of the vote.

Independent election observers reported widespread irregularities during the December 20 vote but the results still got a pass from the court.

The Constitutional Court ruled on Tuesday that the reported irregularities could not have impacted the overall result.

Despite the opposition rejecting the results and describing the process as a sham, only one opposition candidate out of 18 file a petition at the court.
