With 22 states filing lawsuits against US President Donald Trump for his attempts to end birthright citizenship, observers have suggested that his administration could enact clandestine moves to implement the policy which has already faced tough opposition.

According to sources from the United States, officials within the administrations are busily exploring the alternative means of tackling the topic and are opened to scrapping the short-term visas for pregnant travellers.

Shortly after assuming office as the 47th President of the United States, Trump signed an executive order to end what has been a constitutional right for many children of America’s immigrants population.

Legal scholars in America have strongly suggested that neither executive action nor legislation should be able to supersede the constitution’s guarantee of birthright citizenship for those born on US soil. This could spell a heavy blow for Trump and his administration as he has campaigned for several years on the subject matter.

According to sources in the United States, the executive order is part of a long game being played by the Trump administration to get the supreme court of the land to reinterpret the 14th amendment. This could buy the administration more time in the implementation of the policy.

Some observers have also noted that the administration could also scrap short-term visas for pregnant travellers. This move, if implemented by the administration, could indirectly represent the implementation of the policy as pregnant immigrants would not be able to deliver their babies in the United States.
