Supreme court in Ghana issues landmark ruling involving popular social media commentator

The Ghanaian Supreme Court has dismissed a 2020 bench warrant issued for the arrest of US-based Ghanaian social media commentator Kevin Ebo Taylor.

In January 2020, Appeals Court judge Justice Eric Kyei Baffour issued the warrant for the arrest of the social media commentator.

The warrant, which was issued by the judge, a Justice of the Court of Appeal, sitting as a High Court judge, was for a video circulated by Mr Ebo Taylor on Facebook.

Taylor, who hosts a programme titled  ‘With All Due Respect’ on the Loud Silence Radio and TV, had alleged in one of his videos that Justice Kyei-Baffour was promoted to the Court of Appeal from the High Court because he was doing the bidding of the Nana Akufo-Addo government.

This angered the judge to issue a bench warrant for him to appeal before him and justify why he should not be charged for contempt.

However, the Supreme Court of Ghana, has by a 4-1 decision today, July 23, 2025, quashed that bench warrant issued for the arrest of the commentator who has reportedly been in Ghana for the past weeks if not days.
