A mother in South Africa, named Kelly Smith, has been handed a life imprisonment together with her boyfriend and one other accomplice for selling her 6-year-old daughter.
Smith, her boyfriend Jacquen Appollis and their friend Steveno Van Rhyn, have all been convicted of the crime and will all serve life-time imprisonments with the child still missing in the South African area of Western Cape.
In a trial that has shocked the entire South Africa and the world at large, it has been confirmed that the trio sold the child for a sum of 20,000 rand ($1,100) to a traditional healer who said that the girl was desired for her “eyes and skin”.
The child is still missing and has not been found with Police in the country still mounting a search for her.
The trio apparently blamed their behaviour on the abuse of drugs with court judge Nathan Erasmus said the fact Kelly Smith, Appollis and Van Rhyn were drug users was no excuse.
