Ghana’s ambassador to Japan designate, H.E. Humphrey Ajongbah, is set to launch a new policy to accelerate reforms and remove bottlenecks as he aims to bring passport services closer to Ghanaian citizens across Japan.

The new ambassador aims to work closely with various Ghanaian residents associations across the East Asian country to achieve this objective.

H.E. Ajongbah made the disclosure during his working visit to the leadership of the Ghanaian residents association in the Kansai region on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

The new initiative aims to make available mobile application services by cutting travelling time and extra expenses citizens out of Tokyo incur when they apply for the services.

In addition, the soft-spoken career diplomat revealed that his office will work closely with the various Ghanaian residents associations in Japan to achieve this objective.

Meanwhile, in line with the new initiatives, the Embassy has tasked residents’ associations in the various regions to mobilise Ghanaian nationals interested in accessing the service.

“Once we receive requests in bulk for about up to 5 applications or more and they happen to be around the same geographic location we would move to the location to assist the applicants to complete the process,” Michael Assibi, head of chancery at the Ghana Embassy in Tokyo, told JafriQ Radio.

“It is part of our commitment to better serve Ghanaian nationals in Japan,” he added.

Furthermore, he noted that the new reforms form part of his general vision to easily make consular services more accessible to Ghanaian citizens in Japan as his administration targets to improve operational efficiency and better serve Ghanaians as stated in his mandate.
