Kenyan senator accused of having a secret affair with ex-Ghana President Kufuor demands apology

Kenyan politician, Gloria Orwoba, has demanded a retraction and apology from a Kenyan newspaper that claimed she allegedly had a secret affair with former Ghana President John Kufuor.

On December 20, 2024, a Kenyan newspaper made a publication in which they alleged that the Kisii, Nairobi-based politician had a secret affair with the former Ghanaian leader leading to the birth of a child for the Ghanaian man.

Her reaction comes after the Nairobian published news about the Senator and former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, with the headline: “Orwoba Love Affair with President Kufuor: Bundle of Joy. Gloria delivered a bouncing baby boy from her relationship with a former Ghanaian leader but refused to disclose more about their dating life.”

She wrote: “I take great exception to the salacious gossip framed by The Nairobian Newspaper, as the truth to whatever end. For the better part of my career as a female politician, I have had to deal with all forms of violence – verbal and physical. I have bravely confronted powerful men across all the social strata up to the apex of leadership challenging them on certain actions and inaction that entrench and perpetuate negative patriarchy.

That we shamelessly infringe and invade private spaces especially for women and including those of minors who cannot afford the right of reply is unfortunate. At the very least an Honourable Statesman of Africa like H.E. John Kuffuor should be given his right of reply.
For these, I demand an apology and withdrawal of this article and the propaganda it insinuates.”
