There is good news on the horizon for foreign skilled workers in Japan as the government of the East Asian country is considering extending the five-year residency limit for skilled foreign workers if they become pregnant.
In Japan, there have been cases where holders of foreign skilled worker visas have had their employment appointments terminated after they become pregnant.
And, the government is taking steps to ensure that foreign workers can remain employed in Japan while maintaining respect for rights to bear and raise children. Japan has been struggling with issues of labour shortage in the country with the government taking critical steps to resolve the issues.
Plans are far advanced to scrap the five-year limit placed on such workers following a round table discussion dealt deeper into the matters.
Holders of the specified skilled worker visas are eligible to work in 16 industries that are facing labour shortages including construction, nursing care, and agriculture.
