Ghanaian duo of Kevin Danso and Mohammed Kudus suffered a painful loss in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup after their Tottenham Hotspur threw away a 2-0 lead to lose on penalty shootout at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Italy on Wednesday night.

Both Kudus and Danso were handed starting roles in attack and defence respectively with Kudus making a massive impact in the 79 minutes he lasted on the field of play for the English Premier League who were hoping to upset the Ligue 1 title-holders.

Dutch defender Micky van de Ven carved the opener for Thomas Frank’s men 6 minutes before the interval after the 24-year-old scored from a set-piece.

Christian Romero added the second goal for the Premier League side 3 minutes into the second half by scoring from another set-piece.

Spurs dominated and bossed the game and with 11 minutes of regulation left, Frank pulled off the Ghanaian attacker and replaced him with French starlet Mathys Tel.

Shortly after in the 85th minute, Korean substitute Kang-In Lee rifled in from the edge of the box to halve the deficit for the Louis Enrique’s men.

Deep into added-time Portuguese forward Goncalo Ramos pecked the scoring to send the game to penalty shootouts.

Spurs took the lead in the shoot-out after Vitinha missed PSG’s first kick, but once Van de Ven and Mathys Tel both failed to score from 12 yards, Nuno Mendes stepped up to cement their heartbreak as the French champions bounced back from that Chelsea loss by the barest of margins.

Kudus is an influential member of the Ghana squad as he is regarded as one of the best players for the Black Stars while Kevin Danso who hails from Akyem Tafo in the Eastern region of Ghana has represented Austria at the international level.
