Sudan national team head coach James Kwasi Appiah has named the best player he has ever coached during his coaching career.
Appiah, who has guided Sudan to successfully qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco, has had two spells with the Black Stars of Ghana and even qualified the four-time AFCON winners to the 2014 FIFA World Cup – demolishing Egypt 5-1 in the qualification series.
During a recent interview with a Ghanaian news outfit, the former Asante Kotoko player was asked which player is the best he has ever coached and with a little hesitation mentioned Ghana’s all-time leading top scorer Asamoah Gyan as the best player he has ever managed.
He also picked the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification as his best coaching moment while picking Serbian tactician Milovan Rajevac as his coaching mentor.
For his saddest moment in coaching he settled on the 2019 AFCON exit after his Black Stars team were outfoxed by Tunisia in the tournament.
