Ghana’s Ambassador-Designate to Japan, H.E. Humphrey Chatio Ajongbah, says building strong people-to-people ties between the Embassy and Ghanaian nationals across Japan will be a key priority during his tenure, among other strategic objectives.
H.E. Ajongbah, who arrived in Japan in August 2026 to succeed H.E. Mrs. Geneviève Edna Apaloo, has already hit the ground running with official visits to Ghanaian residents’ associations across various prefectures.
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Nikko Hotel in Osaka, the former Head of Chancery at Ghana’s Embassy in Brasilia paid a courtesy call on the executive members of the Ghana Association in the Kansai Region.
During the meeting, the soft-spoken career diplomat outlined his vision and objectives for the Ghana Mission in Japan.

He engaged the Kansai executives in strategic discussions on the impact of Japan’s new immigration policies, the economic contributions of Ghanaians, preparations for Ghana’s 70th Independence Day celebration, consular services, and humanitarian support.
The Ambassador arrived in Osaka, the capital city of the Kansai Region, in the company of the Head of Chancery, Mr. Michael Asibi, and Mr. Christopher E.K. Gaba, who is in charge of Diaspora Affairs, Education and Culture.
Furthermore, H.E. Ajongbah disclosed that the 2027 celebration of Ghana’s Independence will coincide with the golden jubilee of JICA’s presence in Ghana. The celebration will also coincide with the centenary commemoration of the legendary Japanese bacteriologist, Dr. Hideyo Noguchi.
As one of the key thematic focuses of the dialogue, the Ambassador reaffirmed his firm commitment to strengthening the bond between his office and Ghanaian nationals living in Japan.
In conclusion, the Ambassador commended the leadership of the Kansai Association for their efforts to keep Ghanaians in the region united and encouraged all Ghanaians in Kansai to join the association.
On his part, the Chairman of the Kansai Association, Mr. Benjamin Yaw Ofori Atuobeng, expressed profound appreciation to the Ambassador and his team for the engagement.
Other executive members of the Kansai association who were present at the meeting included Mr. Julius Nkansah, Mr. Emmanuel Akyereko Frimpong, Mr. Charles-King Ofosu, Mrs. Doris Kye, Mrs. Richlove Ashialey, and Mr. Emmanuel Ofei.
