This Japanese political party promises to reduce number of foreign residents in Japan

As Japan goes to the National Upper House Elections on July 20, 2025 various political parties are offering solutions to the numerous problems created by the increasing number of foreign nationals in the country.

One party that has made it’s position clear on the subject matter is the Nippon Ishin political party.

During the Japan National Press Club debate on Wednesday, the party’s leader stated emphatically that it has targeted reducing the number of foreign nationals in the country.

The issues of the record number of foreign nationals arriving in Japan and it’s accompanying problems has taken centre stage in the July 20 elections.

A record number of foreigners have entered Japan to either visit or invest in the country while others are in the country basically to look for work and relocate.

“In light of the adverse effects of the disorderly increase in the number of foreign nationals and regional friction, we will formulate a population strategy that includes measures to curb the rise in the ratio of foreign nationals and regulate the total number of foreign nationals accepted, and aim to establish a command center function to manage this strategy centrally at the national level,” the party’s promise reads.

“The population of Japanese children is declining. On the other hand, the number of foreigners is steadily increasing,” Nippon Ishin chief Hirofumi Yoshimura said on June 30.
