Over hundred people have lost their lives while over 273,000 have been displaced in the ongoing conflict between M23 Rebels and government backed forces in the Eastern part of the DR Congo.
The Rwandan-backed M23 Rebel group have seized major towns in the mineral-rich Eastern DR Congo causing major problems in the region including a potential diplomatic row between South Africa and Rwanda.
Rwanda President Paul Kagame and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa have been throwing accusations at each other. Kagame claims the SAMIDRC has been working with the rebel group Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), with the permission of Tshisekedi.
The United Nations have reported that the situation in the country could spark a war in the region with the rebels now vowing to overthrow the government of Felix Tshisekedi.
Dwellers in Goma and other places in the eastern parts of the country woke up to bodies littered on floors while several others around 370 people have sustained various degrees of injuries.
In 2022, the Tutsi-led M23 renewed their insurgency in the region citing discrimination against Congolese Tutsis and failures in governance as the reasons for their rebellion.
The towns captured by the M23 rebel group include Minova in South Kivu, Bweremana, Numbi, and Lumbishi in North Kivu, and now Goma, the heart of Eastern Congo.
