At least 29 students have been confirmed dead in a horrible stampede incident that occurred at an examination hall in Bangui, Central African Republic.
The incident occurred after an electricity transformer explosion caused a massive panic among the students leading to a stampede.
The blast happened on the second day of high-school finals and triggered chaos among nearly 6,000 candidates.
The transformer, which is located on the ground floor of the exam venue, had just undergone major maintenance and repairs when the explosion occurred.
Aside from the deaths recorded, hundreds were injured in the stampede.
President of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, has declared national mourning and ordered free hospital treatment for the wounded.
